Three Performances of “Exceptional in this World” in October

In 2026, under the direction of conductor Nathan Tax, we will be working on the new composition “Exceptional in this World” by composer Joost Kleppe. On the night of March 31 through April 1, we gave a preview at City Hall as part of the celebration marking 25 years since same-sex marriage was legalized. In June, we performed the piece in its entirety for the first time at the international choral festival Various Voices in Brussels and received a rave review in the NRC. On August 3, we performed the piece during World Pride at the Concertgebouw, and several more performances will follow in October. Read more about this unique project here. In October, we’ll perform the full composition three more times, alongside other works from previous concerts. We’ll do so under the inspiring direction of our conductor, Nathan Tax. First, we’ll be guests at the Utrecht Queer Culture Festival on October 8. Next, we’ll perform at the Oranjekerk on October 20, with musical accompaniment by cello, bajan (a type of accordion), and oboe. Tickets for this concert can be ordered here. Our third concert will take place in Vrijburg on October 25. The Remonstrants are celebrating the 40th anniversary of the opening of church wedding blessings to same–sex couples. In 1986, this was the first denomination to make this possible. To make the musical accompaniment for our performances possible, we launched a crowdfunding campaign.
