CONDUCTOR

Nathan Tax

Photo conductor Nathan TaxConductor and bass-baritone NATHAN TAX (1990) first came into contact with choral singing while studying philosophy in Nijmegen. After several years of singing lessons and singing in various student choirs he was admitted to the Utrecht Conservatory for classical singing.

With his clear diction, text awareness and broad palette of sound colors, Nathan sings a diverse repertoire, from late medieval motets to modern music theater. Today, Nathan combines a singing practice at home with tours with professional choirs such as Cappella Amsterdam and the Groot Omroepkoor. Since the pandemic, he also sings in vocal quartet BrinCQ – which, like him, is based in Bussum.

In addition to working in choirs, Nathan also enjoys working with choirs. As a voice coach he has worked with the World Youth Choir and the Amsterdam Gay Men’s Chorus, among others, as a conductor with Sequentus (formerly: Elnosequé) and Consorte, and as a choir leader with the opera choir of THIJL 2018. Since 2024 Nathan is the new conductor of Galakoor.

Nathan challenges singers to continually use their voices in new ways, putting health and expression above beauty and control. From bel canto to overtone singing; through a combination of age-old tried-and-true exercises and new, unorthodox approaches, he allows singers to explore and experience new textures of sound … and their audiences too!
